- Approves creative assets after final review, in collaboration with the creative leadership
- Drives the conception of the artistic direction, visual style and quality of production standards
- Balances competing priorities and multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines
- Engages in inquiry of complex data to understand relationships in the context of use
- Works with other members of the art department to evaluate client or company needs, develop project strategies, and create visual elements for campaigns/projects
- Determines how best to represent a concept visually including the style in which the message is best communicated to the audience
- Engages in processes/activities that motivate other artists working on the project
- Ensures clients goals are defined and clear
- Provides creative inputs to the development of promotional materials for the content
- Determines which photographs, art, or other design elements to use in product
- Analyzes needs and requirements when designing products
- Conducts research to better understand brand objectives, target markets, and industry trends
- Identifies and shares ideas and processes to improve design department processes
- Uses professional industry standard software such as Adobe in the product production process
- Develops and articulates the vision
- Works with clients to understand an artistic approach and style required to meet clients’ vision
- Chooses the cover art for books and periodicals
- Reviews creative assets with the creative leadership
- Sets standards of quality for the creative teams
- Communicates vision and ensures artists create images like illustrations, graphics, photography, charts, graphs, stage design, or movie sets that execute that vision
- Hires and supervises a staff of assistant art directors or set designers to complete designs
- Works closely with UX (User Experience) and UI (User Interface) Designers, enabling better collaboration to ensure product is built collaboratively
- Hires, trains and supervises design staff
- Manages graphic designers, set and exhibit designers and other design staff
- Defines overall creative priorities and the creative pipeline to align the priorities, processes and pipeline workflows for creative teams
- Oversees the implementation of changes to creative scope and assets based on technical production requirements and constraints
- Oversees images/set design for television, live performance, advertisement or video games
- Oversees the page layout of catalogs, newspapers, or magazines
- Produces exciting and innovative ideas to develop advertising campaigns, set designs or publication designs (print, web, interactive)
- Coordinates activities with other artistic and creative departments
- Communicates project status, prioritized goals and updated timelines to the creative project teams periodically
