2nd Opportunity Research Scholarship

Description

The AVMA/AVMF 2nd Opportunity Summer Research Scholarship is intended to provide support for currently enrolled veterinary students who have previously conducted a summer research project and are seeking to gain a second summer of research experience.

Eligibility Criteria
*Must have previously conducted a summer research project and are seeking to gain a second summer of research experience.
*Ideally, student applicants would be continuing their prior research project but that is not an absolute requirement.
*Abstract of their results for presentation at the NIH Veterinary Scholars Symposium required.
*Limited to one per school, and a maximum of five total scholarships will be awarded in 2023.

Airgas Jerry Baker Scholarship

Description

The Airgas Jerry Baker Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student pursuing a minimum four-year bachelors degree in welding engineering (WE) or welding engineering technology (WET); however, priority will be given to welding engineering (WE) students interested in pursuing a career with an industrial gas or welding equipment distributor. All applicants must meet the eligibility requirements.

Applicant must: Be a minimum of eighteen years of age; Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma or equivalent; Be a full-time student as defined by the academic institution; Have at least a 2.8 overall grade point average with a 3.0 grade point average in engineering courses. Financial need is not required; however, priority will be given to those individuals demonstrating a financial need. Priority will be given to those individuals who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career with an industrial gas or welding equipment distributor by prior work experience, clubs, organizations or extra-curricular activities. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States or Canada and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States or Canada. Priority will be given to those individuals residing or attending school in the states of Alabama, Georgia or Florida. (A resident is defined as having lived in the specified area for a minimum of one year.) Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of four years.

Alabama Advantage need based scholarship

Eligibility Criteria
To receive the Alabama Advantage scholarship, admitted students must:

Be an in-state student
Be eligible for the Pell Grant
First-time freshmen submit all financial aid package requirements and receive a financial aid award by December 15 for spring enrollment and May 1 for summer or fall enrollment.
First-time transfer students must submit all financial aid package requirements and receive a financial aid award by October 1 for spring enrollment and May 1 for summer or fall enrollment.
Enroll full time with at least 12 credit hours per semester
Maintain a 2.0 cumulative UA GPA and pass at least 67% of attempted credit hours for the fall and spring semesters combined each academic year

Alabama G.I. Dependents Educational Benefit Program

Description

This nationally renowned program was created by Act 633 and approved October 1947 by the Alabama Legislature. It is administered by the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA) and is governed by the Code of Alabama 1975, Section 31-6-1. The veteran must meet the qualifications to establish eligibility of his/her dependents. A dependent is defined as a child, stepchild, spouse or the un-remarried widow (er) of the veteran.

Alabama Home Builders Foundation

Description

The Alabama Home Builders Foundation scholarship was founded in 1995 with a mission to help fund deserving students who are interested in pursuing an education in the residential building trades in the state of Alabama.

Alabama Junior & Community College Athletic Scholarship

Description

An award not to exceed total tuition and books for attendance at public junior and community colleges in Alabama. Awards are based on demonstrated athletic ability determined through try-outs. Limits on various sports apply. Awards are not based on financial need.

Alabama Math and Science Teacher Education Program (AMSTEP)

Description

Recognizing the shortage of public high school math and science teachers across the state, the 2018 Alabama Legislature passed into law this federal loan repayment program. AMSTEP has a two-fold mission: to encourage individuals to enroll in and complete programs leading to Alabama certification in mathematics or science; and to improve the educational system in Alabama by encouraging those who complete the program to accept math or science teaching positions in Alabama public schools, preferably in public school systems where the shortage of math or science teachers, or both, is most acute.

Eligibility Criteria
Be a graduate of an ALSBE approved program in math or science beginning with the spring term of 2018 and forward from that date, at the baccalaureate or master’s level, from an approved institution leading to an initial secondary professional educator certificate endorsed in math or science. This does not include a teacher who only earns a passing score on the Praxis test in math or science to add a certificate endorsement, and who has not completed an entire approved program.
Holds a valid Alabama professional educator certificate endorsed in secondary math or science, or both.
Is teaching math or science full-time in an Alabama public school district, or at a charter school which has been approved by the Alabama Public Charter School Commission.
Is a citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States.
Has been a resident of Alabama for at least twelve (12) months before the application deadline, and provides documentation proving a permanent connection to the state of Alabama. ACHE shall accept any one of the following as proof of residency:
A current valid Alabama driver’s license.
A current valid Alabama vehicle registration.
A current valid Alabama voter registration card.
Has outstanding federal student loans, subsidized or unsubsidized.

Alabama National Guard Educational Assistance Program

Description

The Alabama National Guard Educational Assistance Program is a state student assistance program established by the Legislature of the State of Alabama and is designed to provide financial assistance to Alabama National Guard members enrolled in a certificate program at an accredited community or technical college or a degree program at an accredited postsecondary institution of higher learning located within the State of Alabama
